Low cost companies are air carriers that offer cheap and reliable passengers transport as their flag product. In order to achieve that goal, low cost companies are discarding every luxury, therefore there are no beverages on the airplane, no audio or video technics, and in most cases tickets are sold via Internet exclusively. Everything bus passenger security is put off in an attempt to offer as cheap air transport as possible. Another way low cost companies found to cut their spending is using alternate airports instead of major ones; taxes on smaller airports are considerably lower than taxes on big ones, what gives smaller ticket price as result.
With low cost companies on the market air travel is made accessible to passengers more than ever - before that most of the air traffic was operated through expensive national air carriers.
There are many low cost companies in Europe; In London, there are 29, in Prague 14 and Rome has 20. Currently Fly Niki, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Germanwings are operating in Belgrade.
With Schengen Visa abolition for travellers from Serbia, it becomes attractive to low cost airlines. Shortly after putting Serbia on White Schengen List company Fly Niki has requested and got the permission to perform air transport in Serbia. Airline company owned by former Formula 1 driver, Niki Lauda is
transporting passengers from Belgrade to various European destinations and back, starting from 2010, February 1st.
As Prague is similar to Belgrade (population, budget, climate) so it is expected that number of low cost companies grow considerably in the following period. Only airport used for civil air traffic in Belgrade is "Nikola Tesla" airport in Surcin. Low cost market is looking for alternative airports and it's almost certain that military airport in Batajnica will be adapted and placed in the service of civil traffic. This will enable low-cost companies to reduce costs furher (Batajnica will have much lower fee than Surcin) allowing them to offer even lower prices for their tickets. In the city of Nis, Airport "Constantine The Great" is open for civil air traffic.
